“Why do I have to explain my art, can’t they just look at it?” Of course they can look at it, but if you give your artist’s statement short shrift, you’re missing an opportunity to deepen the connection between viewers and your work. Good art raises questions; good artist’s statements give just enough context to clarify them.

It’s not about “explaining” the work, how you made it, or how long it took. An artist’s statement shows what’s in it for the viewer without explaining anything away. My job is to work with you to create an Artist’s Statement that provides just enough clear, honest, and simply stated context to widen your audience and deepen engagement with your work. We (your eager viewers) want to know what moves you to make art and especially how best to meaningfully engage with and fully appreciate it. I can help you communicate what makes you tick and how your art reflects that.
