“Why do I have to explain my art, can’t they just look at it?” Of course they can look at it, but if you’re going to weasel out of your statement, you’re missing an opportunity to deepen the connection between viewers and your work. Good art raises questions; good artist’s statements give just enough context to clarify them. It’s not hard to create a great statement - you just have to know what and what not to do.

It’s not your bio. It’s not copied from someone else. It’s not about “explaining” the work, how you made it, or how long it took. An artist’s statement shows what’s in it for the viewer without explaining anything away. My job is to work with you to create an Artist’s Statement that provides just enough clear, honest, and simply stated context to widen your audience and deepen engagement with your work. We (your eager viewers) want to know how to meaningfully see and appreciate what you do. I can help you communicate what makes you tick and how your art reflects that.

Flat rate: $200. One and done: one call gives us all I need to craft your statement. From there it’s just a matter of fine tuning - what in the copyediting business we used to call “nips and tucks.”
