Working in Series – Truro, Cape Cod

Monday – Friday July 19 – 23 9:30am – 12:30pm 5 sessions on campus

Working in series means focusing your creativity around a single idea, theme, or subject and making multiple variations that form a cohesive body of work. Clarify your artistic voice and deepen your creative practice as you generate a personally meaningful theme during class and move quickly into developing exciting visual ideas and new directions. Any medium is acceptable, be it painting, drawing, textile art, quilting, even music. We’ll use written and creative exercises to bypass self-doubt and spark new possibilities. Note that technique will not be taught. Key principles of design and composition may be shared, but this is primarily about finding yourself as a creative individual and turning that into art that works for you and for an audience. Learn how multiple related bodies of work can make you passionate and obsessed. (It can also help in getting solo shows and gallery representation, as curators and gallerists want and need to show the public that you are a serious artist, committed to an original, recognizable path that you’ve made your own.)

Materials: While technique is not a primary focus, the instructor will be demonstrating in oils. Students will need a pad of media-appropriate paper (e.g. Canvas-Paper, multimedia paper) that can be cut into 6” x 6” squares; painter’s tape; one larger support (12” or larger, up to 36″); and a notebook or a few sheets of paper and something to write with.
